PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMME
Pre-school programme / Be ready for school:
Transition to school.
At Learning Steps Childcare we provide learning experiences that equip our children with confidence and skills they need to start school as competent and confident individuals. We understand that families can be anxious for their child to learn, and to begin preparations for entering school. Our learning experiences focus on the essential lifelong skills and knowledge that empowers our children for their journey onto primary school. We share information with our local primary schools and have developed our program based on what will assist and prepare children’s through the transition.
We have resources and dedicated teachers who aim to provide opportunities and experiences every day for children that will support their developing literacy, numeracy, social skills and self-help skills. Through engaging in creative play and relationships our children will generally enter school being able to;
- Manage and care for themselves and their belongings\
- Make healthy food choices and are able to open their own lunch box and drink bottle independently
- Able to toilet and change their clothes independently
- Take turns, listen when others speak, share, negotiate and resolve conflict peacefully and respectfully
- Pay attention and listen for short periods of time when others are talking
- Have great communication skill where they can speak their mind, listen and share language and show pride in their identity.
- Share their ideas with others and learn to respect others views
- Recognise a wide range of letter sounds and maybe also be able to name
- Write their own first and last name
- Know their home address and phone number
- Understand how books operate – where to start, which way is up
- They will broaden vocabulary, and predict the story outcome.
- Use a range of tools and technology for creative expression e.g. art materials, natural resources, computers
- Recognise and write numbers, colours, shapes letters and sequences.
Special Graduation ceremony held for each child and their family when they leave Learning Steps to start school.
